Sandstorm in Kuwait - 11/02/09

We had a 'mother of a sandstorm' in Kuwait today... Everything turned an intense orange-yellow, including the air, and was covered by a fine film of sand-dust, which left a subtle residue in even the most unexpected places - below the toilet-seat, inside light-fixtures, body cavities and folds... Below are some pictures from Salwa, the neighbourhood we live in, taken this afternoon...

Our Street...

The local mosque...

Workers on scaffolding...

An old warehouse...

Some burnt-out branches...

A few Images from our local football pitch...

A lonely lightpost...

Yes, this has been going on constantly since the beginning of last year. I was really hoping that this year would be different!
Wasn't it dangerous to be out in this kind of weather?

Hi Dana,

My camera focus did get a bit 'crunchy', and blinking was slightly irritating for a while, but I've fully recovered by now...

What a ghostly, eerie beauty these images are... Wow.
